This evening event will begin at the Virginia Beer Company with a tour of 401 Second Street, which was built in 1960 as a truck-servicing facility for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company. In the 1980s, 401 Second Street served as the home of a used car dealership, Blanton's Auto. An aerial view from 1986 clearly shows the property almost completely covered with used cars for sale. The evening will continue just down at the street with heavy hor d'ouevres at the 1938 Haas House. This modest-sized Colonial Revival style home is located in the Capitol Heights neighborhood - one of Williamsburg's historic preservation districts. The house was constructed by the owner who worked as a carpenter at Colonial Williamsburg. Although modest in size, there is extensive Colonial style woodwork and many details typically seen in larger and finer quality homes of the period.
